Yoga Postures to keep your body trim and healthy

Moira Clark, who has successfully completed two of our full diploma courses and has now embarked on a third course with us, has kindly forwarded some Yoga Postures for our students to help to keep you fit and healthy after the long winter months.

Yoga Postures to keep your body trim and healthy

    Utthita Trikonasana - Triangle Pose


Benefits - Tones the leg muscles, removes stiffness in the legs and hips. It also relieves back aches and neck sprains, strengthens ankles and develops the chest.

    Parvitta Trikonasana - Reverse Triangle


Benefits - Tones thigh, calf and hamstring muscles. The muscles of the back are also made to function properly as the pose increases the blood supply round the lower part of the spinal region. The chest is fully expanded. It relieves pain in the back, invigorates the abdominal organs and strengthens hip muscles.

    Tadasana - Mountain Pose


Benefits - Standing in correct alignment, the body feels light and the mind acquires agility.

    Parsvakonasana - Extended angle pose


Benefits - Tones the ankles, knees and thighs. Develops chest and reduces fat around the waist and hips. It relieves sciatic and arthritic pains. it also aids elimination.

    Sarvangasana - Shoulder stand


Benefits - Blood is flowing to the heart without strain by force of gravity, allowing blood to circulate around the neck and chest. As a result people suffering from Breathlessness, palpitation, asthma, bronchitis and throat ailments get relief. Due to the soothing effects of the pose on the nerves, those suffering from hypertension and insomnia are relieved. The change in bodily gravity also affects the abdominal organs so that the bowels move freely and constipation vanishes. As a result the system is freed of toxins and one feels full of energy.

    Vrksasana - Tree Pose


Benefits - Tones the leg muscles and gives one a sense of balance and poise.

    Paddagastasana - Standing forward bend


Benefits - Tones the liver, spleen and kidneys. Relieves stomach pain during menstrual periods. Heart beats are slowed down, spinal nerves rejuvenated.

    Pashimottanasana - Seated forward bend


Benefits - Tones abdominal organs and keeps them free from sluggishness. Also tones the kidneys, rejuvenates the whole spine and improves digestion.

    Baddha Konasana - Cobbler pose/ Bound angle posture


Benefits - The pelvis, abdomen and back are all stimulated. It keeps the kidenys, prostrate and urinary bladder healthy. It releives sciatic pain. Blessing for women especially for irregular menstrual cycle andm pregnant women who practice this daily will experience less pain in childbirth. Can be used as posture for Pranayama or meditation.
