Establishing my Career
by Deborah Marzohl I came to Nutritional Therapy like many Kevala students – through personal experience and a general interest in healthy eating and feeling well. As I live in Zurich, Switzerland, it was important for me to study in English, which meant finding a Diploma course that could be completed through distance learning. I spent a lot of time researching different options via the internet and I spoke to many schools before I decided upon the Kevala Centre. From the start I was impressed with the on-line support available and I got stuck in straight away - using the student forum and exchanging messages with fellow students.
It has taken me 18 months to complete the Nutritional Therapy Level 1 course and I can honestly say that I have enjoyed every minute of it. I have, of course, been able to use what I have learnt along the way – both in my own diet and that of family and friends. I also attended one of the 2 day practical tutorial weekends. I met a group of like minded individuals and spent a great time exchanging ideas, thoughts, tips and experiences and of course it allowed me to meet Heather, my tutor, and get to know her a little better. I would highly recommend anyone to take part in at least one of the tutorial sessions – I found it an invaluable experience.
I am currently in the process of establishing myself in individual practice aimed at the English speaking community in Zurich. I’m quite lucky in that there are a large number of people who use English as their main language and there are a few groups and web sites available for me to use for my marketing. I started this process at the beginning of January and have already completed a couple of consultations. I have also been asked to address a group on the subject of how nutrition can effect lifestyle – this presentation was organised by the HR manager of a large multinational corporation in the area and I will approach other such companies to see whether they would like to offer their employees a similar event. Nutrition and ‘Wellness’ are big themes in Switzerland at the moment although not quite as far forward as in the UK or USA so I may have to evangelise a bit before I can build my client base up. I don’t mind though as I find myself constantly excited by the amazing effects of nutritional therapy and am happy to talk about it to anyone who will listen!
