Finding Balance in Troubling Times Bach Flower Essences

by Alicia Sirkin, a Bach Foundation Registered Practitioner

Bach Flower Essences (BFE), a self-healing system, comprises of thirty-eight odourless liquids prepared from English wildflowers, help restore balance to emotions, thoughts and even attitudes. This healing system also considers and addresses the way different personalities act and react to their challenges and stress. For example, people with the same personality type imbalances (e.g. impatient, shy and timid, victim or aggressive types) could benefit from the exact same essences, irregardless of their emotional or physical conditions.

Using the Flower essences

The essences, which have been proven effective by licensed health care professions for seventy years, are completely complementary with medications, foods, supplements and any other healing therapy. Adults and children of all ages can benefit, as well as pets. Sold over the counter in better health food stores in sixty-six countries, BFE liquid drops are taken orally or rubbed topically on pulse points (e.g. inside of the wrists or elbows, temples, behind the ears) with equal results.

The more times the essences is taken or applied within a day, the quicker it seems to work. The essences should be taken no less than four times a day, in order to get results. Approved for sale in the U.S. by the FDA, BFEs are safe and gentle.

Licensed health care professionals worldwide have proven essences' effectiveness on stress since their invention seventy years ago by British physician and scientist Dr. Edward Bach. Specific flower essences in the Bach system can offer a powerful way to find relief from emotions like shock and trauma, grief, loss, fear, anger, hopelessness, helplessness and almost any state of emotional or mental imbalance. See the chart below.

In order to get results, there are two rules:

1. Select the correct essence to address the problem, and

2. Take the right dosage. There is no harm if you take the wrong essence, you will simply not improve.

Below are emotional states typical of our changing times along with the Bach Flower Essences that will restore equilibrium and a positive outlook:

• If you're feeling: Anger, suspicion or revenge try the essence: Holly

• If you're feeling: Constant worries, unwanted repetitive thoughts (can cause sleeplessness) try the essence: White Chestnut

• If you're feeling: Fears of known things (slight to moderate intensity) try the essence: Mimulus

• If you're feeling: Fears of known things (intense); horror, terror, panic try the essence: Rock Rose

• If you're feeling: Like you're losing control of your mind; fear of letting go try the essence: Cherry Plum

• If you're feeling: Overwhelmed try the essence: Elm

• If you're feeling: Grief or Loss; Sadness try the essence: Star of Bethlehem

• If you're feeling: Helplessness (depressed) try the essence: Sweet Chestnut

• If you're feeling: Hopelessness (depressed) try the essence: Gorse (pessimistic), Sweet Chestnut (intense)

• If you're feeling: Completely exhausted, physically and/or mentally try the essence: Olive

• If you're feeling: Racing thoughts, overly active mind try the essence: White Chestnut

• If you're feeling: Unprotected from outside negativity try the essence: Walnut

• If you're feeling: Transitions are difficult try the essence: Walnut

• If you're feeling: Resentment, bitterness try the essence: Willow

• If you're feeling: Injustice try the essence: Vervain

• If you're feeling: Shock, trauma try the essence: Star of Bethlehem

• If you're feeling: General stress or the stress of accidents or emergencies try the essence: Rescue Remedy®

When only one flower essence seems indicated, the essence liquid can be taken several different ways with the same results, straight from the concentrate bottle, or diluted

• To take a single flower essence straight from the concentrate bottle, use 2 drops each time on or under the tongue at least 4 times a day.

• To address a passing mood, dilute a single flower essence by putting 2 drops into a small glass of water. Sip frequently, making additional glasses if needed. Do this until you feel better and are satisfied with your improvement. Each sip equals a full dose, just as if you took 2 drops straight from the concentrate bottle. Minimum daily dose is 4 sips.

• For long term use, put 2 drops of a single flower essence into a clean one-ounce amber glass dropper bottle. Fill the bottle to the shoulder with spring water. Add one teaspoon of a preservative (brandy, apple cider vinegar or vegetable glycerine). Take 4 drops from this "dilution bottle" on or under the tongue. Do this at least 4 times a day. Each 4-drop dose from the dilution bottle is equal to a 2-drop dose from the original concentrate bottle.

If you are experiencing more than one of the mood states listed above, you may wish to combine as many as seven essences into a one-ounce glass amber mixing bottle filled with bottled spring water for a multidimensional healing effect. To Combine a Personal Formula

1. Start with a clean, empty one-ounce dropper bottle.

2. Fill to the shoulder with bottled spring water.

3. Add two drops of each indicated flower essence (as many as seven) from the stock bottles (use 4 drops, if Rescue Remedy).

4. Add 1 teaspoon of Brandy as a preservative (or apple cider vinegar or vegetable glycerine).

5. Take 4 drops of this formula 4 times a day or more, internally by mouth or externally on pulse points.
For general stress, take Rescue Remedy liquid to restore calm. Attention to the correct dosage will assure results. You cannot overdose, even if you take Rescue Remedy every three minutes until you feel better. Rescue Remedy Liquid can be taken several different ways with equal results: it can be taken as is, straight from the bottle, or it can be diluted.

• To take Rescue Remedy straight from the bottle, simply put 4 drops on or under the tongue. Do this as often as needed, every 3 to 5 minutes, if necessary. You cannot overdose.

• To dilute Rescue Remedy for immediate use, put 4 drops into a small glass of water. Sip frequently, as often as every three to five minutes, making additional glasses if needed. Do this until you feel better and are satisfied with your improvement. Each sip equals a full dose, just as if you took 4 drops straight from the bottle. Minimum daily dose is four sips.

• For long term use, put 4 drops of Rescue Remedy into a clean one-ounce amber glass dropper bottle. Fill the bottle to the shoulder with spring water. Add one teaspoon of a preservative (brandy, apple cider vinegar or vegetable glycerine). Take 4 drops from this "dilution bottle" on or under the tongue. Do this at least 4 times a day, or as often as every 3 to 5 minutes, if needed. Each 4-drop dose from the dilution bottle is equal to a 4-drop dose from the original concentrate bottle.

Rescue Remedy can be taken orally as above, or it can administered topically on pulse points from the bottle. Simply rub 4 drops on insides of wrists, on temples, behind the ears, etc. Apply as often as needed, every 3 to 5 minutes, if necessary. If symptoms continue, consult a medical professional.
