A Diploma Course in Anatomy and Physiology

What is the aim of the course?

This specialist course on Human Anatomy and Physiology has been designed for those students looking to study these fascinating topics in greater depth. It offers the advantages of home study and is ideal for those wishing to study a variety of therapies, as this subject underpins the work of most therapists. In clear simple stages the course reveals the different body systems and how they function.

This programme is included in many of our Diploma Courses (see separate course pages for details). Students who study more than one course with us do not have to duplicate these A&P modules, subject to passing a multiple choice exam. This course exceeds level 3 requirements.

Upon completion, students will be eligible for a reduction in the fee for any of our other course which include this subject.

What does the course cover?

The course consists of 3 modules and covers:-

* Integumental Systems and Body Cavities: Cells, tissues, membranes, skin.

* Skeletal System: The framework of the body.

* Muscular System: Muscles move the bones under the influence of the nerves.

* Nervous System: This is like the computer of the body; it is an electrical communication system receiving and giving out information. It is divided into two parts: the central nervous system (CNS), which is the brain and the spinal cord, and the peripheral nervous system which is made up of all the nerves in the body.

* Endocrine System: This is the glandular system. It uses chemical messengers called hormones to carry instructions around the body. The health of the body depends on a correct hormonal balance.

* Circulatory System: This is made up of the heart, blood vessels and the blood circulating around the body. It also involves the lymphatic system.

* Lymphatic System: This system consists of a fluid called lymph. Vessels that convey lymph are called lymphatics. Structures and organs all contain lymphatic tissue, but the central nervous system, bones, and cartilage do not.

* Urinary System: This gets rid of the waste fluid from the blood and is responsible for maintaining the liquid balance of the body.

* Digestive System: This is responsible for changing the food into substances that can be recognised and used by the cells of the body.

* Respiratory System: All cells need oxygen for life. The respiratory system takes oxygen into the lungs and gives out carbon dioxide. It works in close conjunction with the heart.

* Reproduction System Responsible for continuation of the species.

* Diseases of the Body System: Basic information of common ailments.

* Final Exam: to be completed on finishing all course modules.

What qualification does this course give?

Having passed the Kevala Centre final examination the candidate will receive a Diploma in Anatomy & Physiology.

What support is available?

Full tutor support is available from your own personal tutor and there are regular practical tutorials available at the Centre.
