Why I chose The Kevala Centre
by Kim Blake. I chose to study Nutritional Therapy with The Kevala Centre primarily because it was by correspondence (I work full time so this was very important), but also because it was reasonably priced, and the diploma qualifies for membership of BANT - I was looking for a change in career and this was very influential in my decision.
I found it interesting and challenging and the fact that students are encouraged to look beyond the written course in order to answer the questions in each module meant that it raised awareness of the wealth of materials available. Another important aspect was that the tutor was approachable, friendly and helpful and, when confidence dropped (as is natural with all studying), she was very encouraging and fired up the enthusiasm again. Also, the fact that she had qualified and was running a successful practice by doing the same course instilled confidence in it as a whole.
I enjoyed the course so much that I have now enrolled on the Iridology course and am having exactly the same experience, in that it is interesting and well written, and the tutor is approachable, helpful and encouraging. Also, if you become stuck, lose motivation or have a query that you just cannot answer, the tutors are happy for you to call them and this is very important to ensure that you remain on track. It can be very lonely studying at home, and the support network from Kevala is excellent - the study buddy network, so that you can bounce ideas off other students who are at a similar level, and the weekend tutorials at the Centre (highly recommended) which help to consolidate the learning, enables you to meet fellow students and bounce ideas around in an informal arena.
The regular Student newsletter is a good forum to make your first forays into writing articles (which could become a part of your business if you decide to start up in practice), and to see how other students are getting on in various other courses. It could also encourage you to look into other courses and widen your expertise. Similarly, the website is great for contacting other students through the Student Forum, looking at the online library for information, reminding yourself about the course you are doing or just looking at the outlines of the other courses available.
The admin staff at The Kevala Centre are friendly, informal, knowledgeable and helpful, and you are made to feel like part of the family whenever you contact them. If you need them to, they do everything they can to make sure that you do not feel isolated and alone whilst studying, and are ready to offer advice on any aspect of the course or study problems.
All in all, I would recommend The Kevala Centre as a means of learning holistic therapies which can be used simply for personal use, transferred into the workplace or into setting up a new business.
